Balearic Islands
Visit to the Sa Caseta photovoltaic park

As reported in an article published on 30 July 2020 on the website www.ecoticias.com, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Production Sectors stated that the Balearic Project, currently under construction by the UTE, controlled by the company ESI SpA, is one of the 55 photovoltaic solar energy projects that the Spanish government plans to implement in the next two years. The commissioning of these 55 plants will add to a total of 326 MW, a capacity that will allow renewable energy produced in the Balearic Islands to increase from 3% recorded in 2018 to 10% in 2023 and which will help address the climate emergency with the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

On 29 July, the Vice President and Minister of Energy Transition and Productive Sectors, Juan Pedro Yllanes, accompanied by the Director General of Energy and Climate Change, Aitor Urreste, and by the Director of the Balearic Energy Institute (IBE), Ferran Rosa, reiterated the "commitment to clean energy" in the Balearic Islands during the visit to the photovoltaic park of Sa Caseta currently under construction in the municipality of Llucmajor.

The 22MWp photovoltaic plant of Sa Caseta (first plant of the two commissioned to UTE, controlled by the company ESI SpA, in the Balearics), occupies an area of 243,589 m2 and with a peak power of almost 22 MW, consists of 56,700 photovoltaic panels, with a power of 385 Wp and, when fully operational, will produce approximately 36.76 GWh / year, which will avoid the emission of approximately 24,400 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

The largest Spanish energy company, Endesa S.A. plans to invest 17.7 million euros in this photovoltaic system.

To make its operation possible, Enel Green Power Spain will build 3 transformation centers and a private substation.
